The Current Crisis
A Multi-Dimensional Crisis
Our country has never witnessed such a state of total collapse as it does today under the rule of populism, mediocrity, incompetence, and failure—especially after the popular will and the hope for peaceful change through the ballot box were hijacked. Tunisia now faces a multi-dimensional crisis that casts a shadow over the nation, rendering the future a source of anxiety and fear for the majority of citizens. This has only deepened the national sense of despair and depression.
Systematic Destruction
What can we expect from a president who has made demolition a governing mode, leaving no vital area untouched without undermining it? Whether it be the law, the institutions of the state, the youth and their dreams, civil society and politics, the economy and purchasing power, public trust, unity and solidarity, the freedom of initiative, freedom of expression and association, the right to dissent, or the values of merit and competence... A president who brought with him a system that targeted entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators, while standing idle before the alarming exodus of the country's youth, its talents, and its best and brightest... A system that weakened public administration, discredited civil servants, and used them as scapegoats for its own failure...
Our Response to the Crisis
Commitment to Peaceful Change
Faced with this nightmare that looms over our country—and out of our firm belief in our people's right to a better life—we chose to turn once again to the people through elections. We had hoped that elections would serve as the best means of achieving peaceful change and initiating the battles of rescue and reform. We envisioned a contest of ideas, projects, and programs in which Tunisians could choose those most capable of leading the nation and carrying their hopes—especially at this crucial juncture for our country and in a world undergoing profound transformations, where international dynamics have become critical factors in shaping the destinies of nations.
Manipulation of Popular Will
However, for those who view elections as a matter of "existence or extinction" and a "national liberation battle," all means were deployed, thanks to the authoritarian control and the concentration of all powers, to manipulate the popular will and deprive Tunisians of a genuine opportunity to improve their lot and break with the legacy of incapability, mediocrity, and failure.
Unwavering Determination
Despite all this, our determination to continue the struggle for our people's right to a better life remains unshaken—especially in light of the regional and international shifts and the growing global instability, all of which have further complicated the situation in our country.
Regional and International Challenges
- The worsening phenomenon of irregular migration both to and from Tunisia (particularly the ongoing drain of the country's intellectual and professional brains)
- The ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war which continues to fuel spiraling inflation rates and sharp increases in food prices
- The atrocities committed against the Palestinian people and the unfolding Israeli-Iranian confrontation, with its destabilizing effects across the entire Arab region
- The strained and cooling relations in our regional surroundings, between neighboring states themselves and between them and their traditional partners
- The recent developments in Libya and their direct implications for our own country
- The consequences of climate change and global warming: drought, water scarcity, frequent wildfires and storms, and rising sea levels. Meanwhile, rapid technological shifts, such as digitalization and artificial intelligence, are increasingly affecting our economy, national security, and sovereignty... These are all urgent, high-impact challenges. Yet they remain absent from the agenda of a populist and incompetent regime that is preoccupied solely with maintaining its grip on power and silencing dissent and free voices.
Our Guiding Principles
Empowering Citizen Participation
Because we are deeply committed to liberating more voices and expanding the scope of citizen participation, it is only natural that we work to mobilize all segments of society, so that every Tunisian, from their own position, can contribute to the national duty of rescue and make it a national priority. This empowerment would allow citizens to become the faithful guardians of our foundational principles and achievements—and the first line of defense against any attempts to distort, reverse, or hijack them, as we are currently witnessing.
From Elite Circle to Society at Large
Today, it has become imperative to shift the battle for rescue from the confines of the elite circle to society at large, from isolated factional struggle to widespread civic and public engagement. This must not become a pretext for settling scores, committing new injustices against our people, deepening divisions, or further inflaming the national situation...
Commitment to Peaceful and Ethical Means
If rescuing Tunisia is a national duty, then pursuing it through lawful, legitimate, peaceful, and ethical means is a moral obligation—one we must never abandon under any circumstances...
Ethical Foundation
Injustice must never be met with more injustice. Noble ends cannot be attained through dubious or corrupt means. Mediocrity cannot be met with more mediocrity. And the rescue of our nation cannot be achieved by dividing Tunisians, spreading hatred and resentment, violating people's dignity, or tarnishing our homeland's values and reputation, at home or abroad.
The Three Phases of Action
Change Begins from Within
"Change Begins from Within", within the capacity of individuals and communities to adapt to shifting realities and absorb new developments. Political life in Tunisia is "not a calm, steady river"... Following the electoral moment, which further exposed and laid bare the authoritarian nature of the populist and erratic regime, it has become essential to absorb the disappointment of a "shattered hope for change" and the manipulation of the popular will, and to then regroup and resume the battle for rescue and reform.
A People's Battle
Our struggle is not a power struggle, not a fight for influence, and not a race for positions. It is a people's battle...a nation's struggle... a fight for the future...A battle we have chosen to fight, armed with faith in the nobility of our cause, the legitimacy of our purpose, the soundness of our path, and the firm belief that it will culminate, by God's will, in the end of tyranny, the fall of authoritarianism, and the return of the people's voice through free, fair, and democratic elections in which they will determine their own destiny.
Strategic Vision
In anticipation of all possible scenarios, we have committed to preparing a strategic vision based on three distinct phases, each with its own goals, means, and methods. Each phase is shaped by evolving themes and guiding principles that reflect the imperatives of the moment.
Overview of the Three Phases
- The first phase is the legitimate and necessary struggle against authoritarianism (this is the "Rescue Phase")...
- The second phase is the delicate post-authoritarian transition, requiring swift measures to restore public confidence in politics, the country, and its future (the "Trust Phase")...
- The third phase is the implementation of the long-overdue great reforms needed to return Tunisia to its rightful place and past brilliance (the "Reform Phase").
